A tiny speckle of Christmas days...

So much has happened over the last few days - most importantly, Matti-monster has discovered the *magic* that is Father Christmas :) He has had such a ball, that he has fallen asleep TWICE in the car - something he has not done since he was about 17months old!!!
Happiest guy - EVER :)
Shame these two hatched on the braai grid at my parents house - and there they will stay, high enough to be out of reach from Kimbah, the border collie, who LOVES birds....too much.
I LOVE this shot - yay me :)
Be a "real" man.....as opposed to?
My 3year old, in his Big School Hat - ready for Grade 00 next year. *sniff a bit*
My two big boys :)
Thanks for looking!

Baby shower time :)

So exciting - I love everything about babies....from the "snot sucking out of their ears" [a shower insider joke] to the smelly little toes - they are too too cute for words! The excited-ness about the imminent arrival, the families getting together, the friends with wanted and unwanted advice hehe. It's all perfect.

So, this, is what keeps me going :
I will always think of my niece and my sister-in-law when I see butterflies - my SIL loves them :)
My angel oke smelling the orange leaf....
We will call her George. She is so loveable...always smiling - just like my Reilly baba - they are about the same age too...
Beautiful. Nuff' said.
One of my favourite boys in the world - My Matti-goggo
It has taken me NEARLY FOUR YEARS to get him to be over his insane fear of face painting....he is, and today, for his first ever attempt, he was a Tiger....he growls rather well hehe.
I just love this pic. Mr Tiger #2...he was a spider, but then growling is so much more fun ;)

So things have calmed down to a calm panic, and now I really do feel somewhat at a loss for what to do with my time haha. It was always rushing around like a lunatic - now it's tying up loose ends, fetching completed products, dabbling here and there with pics. I found these quotes to keep me "inspired" as it were:
The camera can photograph thought. ~Dirk Bogarde
Well enough said really :)
“The camera is an instrument that teaches
people how to see without a camera.”
~ Dorothea Lange
Amazing that something so seemingly profound, is, in fact, blatantly simple, and obvious. Things I would never have been excited about a few months ago, are suddenly neccesary. I must capture moments, memories, smiles, frowns, toes [hehe], little hands, wrinkles, sunlight, leaves - well, everything. It's AWESOME.
“If I could tell the story in words,
I wouldn’t need to lug around a camera.”
~ Lewis Hine
Wow. Never ever would I have EVER placed myself in a category where words did not suffice :) I love literature, teach it, use it, and devour it. And yet, until I took some meaningful photographs, words were yet to really fail me. Now, they do - quite often as it turns out hehe.
"Photography is a means of recording forever
the things one sees for a moment."
~ Aaron Siskind
“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.”
Dorothea Lange
" A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words"
Ansel Adams
The quotes above, actually sum up, really well, what I said in my first post - I WANT to capture time, moments, memories, pieces of the soul, so that when moments are forgotten, and worlds have moved, I have a piece of that - a part of my life, and a part of the person in the image's life. Something to hold dear....the moments in time that create the journey.

As a momi who has always wanted a girl - but been blessed with the world's most divine boys, it almost broke me today to see the darling ballet fairies doing their "thing" :) I say *almost*, cos my oldest son was there - waving his wand and loving every minute of it....cringe? Naah - he had a ball, and I got my little share of "pink" for the day :)
Posing - supposed to be pointing toes ;)
All in the circle, shaking fairy wands....
Jamming - as only she can ;)
I am officially blown away by this shot - surprised myself :) Yay me - I like it
The joy of being a little girl huh?

Christmas Shoot

The whole idea for this adventure began when, after having completed a Christmas shoot or two, I saw the kids in a totally different light. I wanted everyone to see who they were - almost like they were my babies, and I had to show them off :)
I have decided to share some with you - so that my particular "feel" is perhaps portrayed....
Had SUCH a ball doing abstract shots
Such a beautiful little girl....with so much spunk :)
The world's sweetest little girl - so caring, so cute
This little guy is as angelic as he looks here!
Playing with light - and candles
This particular little goggo is mine [above]

The last set of images from yesterday - what a gorgeous little family. Dad was on a plane [as they often are], but it was so cool to have met such a happy little boy and his gorgeous sister :)
I think I learn things from everyone I meet, and this family showed me fun......and love. So cool!
Another gorgeous little fairy :)

Were you aware that small dogs can hide in the *most* amazing spaces, when needs be? Shame poor fairy child just wanted to love Max the doggy, and Max, well, he wanted none of it :(
Does she not remind you of a fairy at the bottom of the garden? With daisies towering over her :) Too precious man! Such a good little girl too.....
She also, as luck would have it, comes set with the cutest pair of tootsies :) Fairy dust included :P
What a lovely time I had with the girls today - thanks!

I don't have a little girl of my own - so Tinkerbelle is as close as I will get :P She is known in my circle as "my pink" - I LOVE spoiling her, and think she is the closest thing to the most gorgeous baby on earth [closest, purely cos my boys were OBVIOUSLY the *most* gorgeous hehehe].

A darling little girl and her parents had their first at home shoot with me today - what fun! What lovely people!! Poor little angel was not feeling herself - little bit heat shattered and a little bit tired, but I think we managed to get some very cute shots.
I do enjoy seeing people in their own comfort zones - and what a loving family this is!
Thanks guys for sharing your morning with me, and a little bit of your sunshine :)

So how pretty is my photolog? Thank you to my darling husband for making it such a pretty one!
I need to introduce my concept - which is proving more difficult as the days go by and the words seem to elude me. I have done a small amount of thinking, and managed to come up with the following:
1. My photography is very laid back, relaxed, natural. I like the term lifestyle photography - but that *sounds* so pretentious for what I do. The concept is lovely, but not mine.
After much research [this is a continued process of growth], I have discovered that Lifestyle photography, defined as: General lifestyle images can encompass basically anything a person or group of people could do with their day. Any of these topics could be shot using people of any gender or age, with couple or families, and where applicable as groups of friends. It sounds much more posed than what I ever had in mind! Photojournalism is also, defined as where the images tell a story, and should normally be accompanied by words. I feel that, my images don't always need words, so, while they tell a story, it is not what I had in mind at all.
My images are there to capture moments. Real moments. I might have to coin a term :)
2. I heard once that a person did not want his photograph taken, as it is said to "capture the soul". Well yes, that is EXACTLY what I want to do. I want to show, with my images, the lovely little people behind each one. I want the viewer to know the person in the image. I would love to capture time, and save it gently in a bubble. THAT is what I like doing.
3. I take pictures of little feet to show that one day, when they are 18 and "know better", they were once cute, and pudgy and smelled of lavender :). It is part of my style - little moments in time you can reflect on.
4. I have two boys - one is very slow to warm up to people, and the other loves everyone! So I am very easy going about what I expect. I don't like to force things - if a child doesn't like wearing a hat, they will be happier without one. I would *much* rather see pictures of my children happy, and as themselves, than fake ones! If a child is very serious, rather get lovely pictures of them being themselves, focusing on the truck/sandpit/bird etc - and in this way, have a true reflection of who they are at that moment in time.
I am starting a journey here with my photographs. I hope to share with you my travels, as I meet people, and grow into my new definition of me.
Wish me luck :)
